"Describe an achievement or rewarding experience that you are most proud of accomplishing while living with CF, and how it has molded the person you have become."

I put on my first pair of shiny black tap shoes at the age of two. I was hooked! That was the beginning of a 12 year journey as a regional, state, and national competitive tap dancer. The vast majority of competitive dancers end their competitive dance career upon graduation from high school. I was determined to continue dancing in college. Why? Because not only is tap dance one of my greatest passions, it is a major contributor to my good health. The hours of aerobic exercise I receive each day from tap dancing ultimately became the perfect means to healthy lungs. Thus, as I embarked on my journey to UF, one of my first orders of business was to find a tap dance team. The first week of my first semester in college, I auditioned for UF Stomp the Swamp. I had found my new dance home. I ultimately became the Stomp the Swamp show coordinator for the annual showcase. I also began to choreograph. Finally, I am honored and proud to have been elected as the President of Stomp the Swamp beginning in the fall of 2014. I never imagined so many years ago when I heard the first taps from my own feet, that I would become a president of a performance tap team at a major university. Through tap I acquired the life skills of perseverance, strength and endurance.

What does the face of Cystic Fibrosis look like? It is no longer the face of a small sick child as it was many years ago. Today it is the face of a vibrant, thriving, determined person. The face of Cystic Fibrosis in the year 2014 is mine.
