"Describe an achievement or rewarding experience that you are most proud of accomplishing while living with CF, and how it has molded the person you have become."

Growing up with CF, I can honestly say that there was never anything that I couldn't do. My family never let me use CF as an excuse and to this day, I do not see CF has a hindrance in my life, but rather a motivator. Today I am working on completing my degree in pharmacy and in two years, I will graduate with my Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Being accepted into pharmacy school and completing the two most rigorous years of the curriculum, both mentally and physically, is the achievement that I am most proud of to date while living with CF. It hasn't been easy but these past few years have easily been one of the most influential journeys of my life. Through my studies and getting the opportunities to work closely with patients who are battling all kinds of chronic illnesses, I have learned many things about drugs and disease state management but all clinical skills aside, I think the most important thing I have learned is compassion and understanding for others. No matter how tough life becomes, I am always able to remind myself that things could always be worse. And without the exposure to the challenges and daily battles that many other patients face, I don't think I would be able to look at my life today and describe it as anything short of extraordinary!

ARTWORK DESCRIPTION

The significance of this depiction is the difference between taking care of our lungs and not. The lobe without leaves represents a life in which we do not take care of ourselves and do not do what our body needs to sustain life; things like our daily medications, adequate nutrition, hydration, and rest. A life in which we have no support, outside help, or loving care. The lobe with leaves, however, represents a life in which we flourish with great hope for the future because we have the support, resources, and knowledge necessary to keep our lungs full of life.
