"What inspirational advice would you give to others with CF entering high school or college? As part of your essay, please also explain the significance of your creative presentation to your journey with CF."

If we always waited until we felt "ready" to jump into a new season of life, we would just end up waiting forever. No one is ever quite ready or prepared to make big jumps to high school or college. Having already conqured these two transitions, I have some advice for those who also fight Cystic Fibrosis...

Most importantly, be open about your disease. When you keep it a secret or try to hide the true realities of it, it can often feel lonely. Take the opportunity when you are meeting people to educate them about CF and what your true life is made up of. It is from your honesty that I know you will be able to make some genuine friends and form some fabulous support systems. It is so essential to create those special bonds, because those are the people that will lift you up and inspire you to keep fighting. The journey is much harder alone.

My creative presentation perfectly ties into my advice. My journey has been all about the people. It is from their love and constant support that I gain courage to keep fighting. They too each have their own unique battles, and I have loved that we have this sort of alliance to stand by each other amidst our own personal storms. My community of people are my true inspiration, and I will forever be grateful. They make my life beautiful and every breath so precious.
