"In honor of the 25th anniversary of the AbbVie CF Scholarship, choose an event (personal or cultural/historical) from the past 25 years and describe how it has impacted your journey with CF."

One of the most significant events in my life occurred within just the past couple of weeks. On Sunday April 30th, 2017 I was officially coated with my veterinary white coat, along with 160 of my amazing colleagues. The white coat that I received not only symbolizes my pledge to uphold the veterinary oath, but also serves as my promise to help lead the future of medical research to the very cures that we need for diseases like Cystic Fibrosis. As I donned my white coat for the first time I was filled with pride and a sense of achievement that I did not allow my disease to stop me from accomplishing my dreams. Even to this day I can vividly recall the moment that I was diagnosed with CF, and the fear and hesitation that my diagnosis caused me to feel towards pursuing higher education. The past three years of my veterinary school education and the experiences that I have gained so far in my clinical year have shaped me into a strong, confident, and determined woman that is ready to face the world head on, regardless of what my disease throws at me in the future. I am thankful for the support that my family, friends, CF care staff, and fellow colleagues have given to me over the years, and I pledge to work tirelessly to apply my knowledge toward the development of life changing medical discoveries. On April 30th I received my coat and my chance to fight.
