"In honor of the 25th anniversary of the AbbVie CF Scholarship, choose an event (personal or cultural/historical) from the past 25 years and describe how it has impacted your journey with CF."

“Mom, Dad, thanks for moving me out of my dorm.” “Of course.” “Is that the last of it?” “Yeah, I think so, let’s go double check.” “Thank God, it’s summer.” “Tee, we have to tell you something.” “What? Is something wrong? Are the dogs sick?” “No, maybe you should sit down…” “Just tell me!” “Bridget called… Your last culture tested positive for B-Cepacia.” “Oh.” “Well, I’m ok right?” “They found it early, right?” “Bridget said you will be fine, but you can’t go to the walk.” “Why? How is that fair?” “It is the foundation’s rule, you wouldn’t want other people putting your life in danger.” “Oh, so my life is in danger?” “No, you’re going to be fine. The IV antibiotics will knock it out of your system.” “IV antibiotics?” “I just finished IV antibiotics two weeks ago!” “I know, Tee. It’s a bummer, but we’ll get through it like always.” “We?” “I am the one that has to have a needle in my arm for 4 weeks.” “I hate this. Why does this have to happen to me?” “This is your life, Tee.” “You have CF.” “You’ve been fighting things like this since you were a baby…” “It has only made you stronger.” “So, I am one of the sick ones now?” “I’m the CF patient with the dangerous bacteria…the one everyone wants to avoid.” “For now… the antibiotics are going to get rid of it.” “I really hope so.” "I can't let CF win."
