A Four-Walled Room With a Window. Living with a chronic disease comes with more than just the upkeep of my health for a “normal” life. Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is accompanied by loneliness, payments of time, and years of fighting just to move inches forward. However, knowing other CF warriors helps to know that I am not in the fight alone until you find out that kids with CF have to be kept at least three feet apart from each other. In a life where hospitals, doctor’s appointments and medical treatments rule, a truly inspirational and life-changing experience was when I discovered Claire Wineland. Claire Wineland is a YouTube blogger who is currently 20 years old and has battled Cystic Fibrosis her entire life. Hearing her tell her story with such joy, passion and positivity ignites within me a sense of hope and a call to live life despite CF. Claire is engaged in a battle much more grueling than I am involved in, yet she has a firmer grasp on her meaning in life and whom she wants to be. People who travel through hell and still manage to shine bright are my heroes. In one of her videos, Claire simply explained, “You can be in pain and yet still see beauty.” I have taken her comment and deeply rooted it into my heart. I will not let CF take away from the joy of life I have been humbly gifted with.
