"As you pursue your dreams of higher education, describe what changes you would like to see in the CF community. What steps would you take to initiate these changes?"

At an early age I began to notice I was different than my friends. I was the only one doing breathing treatments, taking pills, and visiting the hospital frequently. For obvious reasons, my friends couldn't relate with me on these topics. The only people that really could, were other CF patients. I was ten when I first met someone with CF, and I loved being able to connect with someone who knew what I went through daily. The challenging part of connecting with other patients is that we cannot do so in person, due to the risk of cross infection. As an adult with CF, social media and technology has made it easier to connect with others, but there needs to be a solution for the younger CF community. The change I would like to see is the creation of an app that would help connect young kids and CF families. This app would be a place where kids get to meet others that are just like them. It would also be a place that had fun activities and games that would help teach the importance of compliance. Patients could see that others are doing treatments and get rewards for completing daily tasks. The main point of this app would be to create connections at a young age. This would help people cope with all the curve balls that Cystic Fibrosis throws our way. The challenges we face are many, but we don't need to walk through them alone.
