"As you pursue your dreams of higher education, describe what changes you would like to see in the CF community. What steps would you take to initiate these changes?"

I believe that the best way to make an impact on the lives of Cystic Fibrosis patients and their families is to continue to raise awareness and get more people involved in the CF community. The CF community already consists of so many, but there are still people out there that have no idea what Cystic Fibrosis is. There is power in numbers, and I believe that if more people continue to get involved in the CF community, a cure will be found in no time. I imagine that the best place to start spreading awareness about Cystic Fibrosis is in one’s school. Sharing a part of yourself with people that know you and see you almost every day makes them want to share your story with others, further spreading awareness. As the outgoing President of my school’s Beta Club, we participated in a couple of CF service projects this year. We collected over 600 items to put into goodie bags to give to hospitalized CF patients to make their hospital stay a little easier. Some of our members volunteered to help the CF Foundation at their annual Great Strides event. Sharing your story with people you know makes spreading awareness easy and fun. When people know more about who you are, they are inspired to help. Raising awareness and igniting inspiration will make people want to get involved. The more people are involved in the CF community, the easier it is to make great advancements in finding a cure.
