"As you pursue your dreams of higher education, describe what changes you would like to see in the CF community. What steps would you take to initiate these changes?"

The most effective change that I would like to see in the CF community is modifying what CF stands for. As of currently, CF is short for Cystic Fibrosis; however, I hope to live to see it changed to Cure Found. With increasing medical advancements, I am optimistic that this goal is achievable. One of the most crucial steps to initiating change is raising awareness. By educating the community about CF, funding can be provided towards a cure. Some steps that I have taken to promote this cause include participating in the Great Strides Walk and sharing my story. After my diagnosis at nine, my family became involved to advocate for a cure. We shared my story with my uncle, the principal of Vestavia Hills High, who was inspired by my journey and encouraged the SGA to lead a fall campaign for CF. The student body raised $17,135 and was the top fundraiser among schools which participated. This was only the beginning. In the fourth grade, I began participating in the Great Strides Walk. All of my friends, family, and teammates attended to support my fight. The following year, my elementary school chose to dedicate their yearly fundraiser to the CF Foundation. Making my community aware of my disease has in turn allowed me to share my story to showcase that CF does not define its patients but empowers them to live a life of endless possibilities. Like my creative presentation demonstrates, there is still life within these lungs.
