"As you pursue your dreams of higher education, describe what changes you would like to see in the CF community. What steps would you take to initiate these changes?"

The average life expectancy for people living with Cystic Fibrosis is 37.5 years. One could easily consider that 37.5 years is far too short. However, we in the CF community admire the growth in that number. As I pursue my college education, I continually grow too, like that number. I grow from experiences, achievements and mistakes, and through every obstacle I face, no matter how quaint or monumental, I have learned to celebrate. Accomplishing the little things can often be overlooked or under-valued, but, it's the little things that contribute to attaining our ambitions.

Why not celebrate? Tomorrow is not guaranteed, nor are the opportunities challenging us. Take the risk and relish in the reward.

I desire for the CF community to celebrate all of their individual achievements as well as celebrate every CF advancement. It is often that we constantly aim for our next goal, diminishing the one previously accomplished. When a new advancement is made within the CF community, the immediate response is what can be improved or what comes next. However, 37.5 years is the result of these advancements. A remarkable milestone worthy of a celebration.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't be determined to continue chasing your dreams. Life is just too short to not live in the moment. So as that number continues to grow, we must all celebrate; honoring the achievements that have come before us and those that will come in the future.
