"As you pursue your dreams of higher education, describe what changes you would like to see in the CF community. What steps would you take to initiate these changes?"

As I pursue my dreams of higher education, I would like to see an increased awareness about CF within the community. Currently working in a health care setting, I am finding that dozens of my colleagues do not know what CF is. I think increasing awareness in hospitals and clinics is a great place to start. As CF becomes more prevalent, seminars and continuing education credits would be beneficial in providing information about the basics of CF as well as providing care to someone with CF because it is VERY different than the ordinary patient. Perhaps these seminars could be in May during CF Awareness Month. Once the awareness is increased, that motivates people to be the change in society. The ultimate change I'd like to see within the CF community is a cure. CF has caused a lot of stress in my life and my family's too. I would never wish this disease on my worst enemy, but I tell myself everyday that I was granted this life because I'm strong enough to handle it. One day there WILL be a cure and one day CFers won't have to suffer anymore. I pray everyday and hopefully one day those prayers get answered.
