"As you pursue your dreams of higher education, describe what changes you would like to see in the CF community. What steps would you take to initiate these changes?"

When someone is diagnosed with a long-term disease, there are typically support groups that are available for them. They are able to meet other individuals who are fighting the same battles as them. I, as well as all other CF patients, do not have that luxury. Being face to face with another person with CF can potentially be fatal due to cross infection, and there are rules preventing us from doing so. This can be incredibly isolating. I want to see these rules change, for the sake of others with this disease and to be able to say that this is one aspect that CF cannot control.

I feel that the best way for me to be a part of this change is to be an advocate for CF. I can create an online support group for people to connect and become friends in a safe place. Then, I want to act as a voice for everyone with CF and raise public awareness. I can use many social media outlets for this. My goal is that raising awareness will allow for donations to be made towards research. I hope that someday treatments will be made that can fight off respiratory infections and make it safe for people with CF to meet each other. I may not see a true cure for CF one day, but I am okay with that. I dream of being able to stand face to face with someone with Cystic Fibrosis. I have hope.
