"As you pursue your dreams of higher education, describe what changes you would like to see in the CF community. What steps would you take to initiate these changes?"

I would like to see the continuation of the medicinal breakthroughs for CF go hand in hand with greater prominence of support groups and literature on managing CF away from home in early adulthood. Because infection control doesn't allow CF patients to receive in-person support from one another, groups collaborating over electronic communication can be a great alternative. I will be participating in an online CF support program this summer. From this experience, I hope to learn more about how this type of program works and initiate a more informal version of my own. I believe everyone with CF could benefit from hearing from someone else who's really been there and having an attentive ear that truly understands. More online support groups would help to achieve better mental health, as well as create lifelong connections within the CF community. In addition, I would like to see books or articles on preparing CF patients who are moving into adulthood and soon to be living on their own. As a graduating senior going off to college, I, myself, often question how things will be different on my own. What are all the programs available to me? For what will I need assistance? As I figure out what works for me, I plan to write down my steps. I would like to write a guide for CF patients that would break down what to expect, what programs are good, the challenges of the transition, and how to balance everything.
