"As you pursue your dreams of higher education, describe what changes you would like to see in the CF community. What steps would you take to initiate these changes?"

A beneficial change I would like to see in the CF community would be to connect the CF professional network with students of CF for better access to internships, mentorships, and the workforce. While many outside the CF community label the disease a “disability” which can make a job search difficult, those in the CF community realize that having this disease only makes us work harder. Therefore, I believe that increasing the connectivity between CF patients and those related to the disease in the workforce would greatly help patients succeed in their career fields.

To bring this idea to fruition, I would create a central location on social media where CF students can register their names, major, interests, and accolades. Similarly, businesses with a CF connection can register their company, internships, and job openings. Both students and companies can log onto this site to find an appropriate match. Creating a professional network between those who want to help hire young CF patients would greatly help patients struggling to find a career path, but also be a way to help lift the financial burden of the disease. Many job positions are based on your connections, that is why it is essential to level the playing field and give CF patients a much needed boost in the professional arena.
